Cultural differences

Hi guys!

Today, we talked about cultural differences we could face in the U.S. In fact, we can recognize the differences not only in a real life but in American academic writings, and this will an issue that you need to think about for this semester as well.

We talked about a script about a movie, Writing across borders, and we found that students from different cultures may go through what they've never experienced before. As for the materials we talked about, if you need the script, please click on here. Also, if you need the pictures that we saw in class, please click on here.

Plus,
we're going to meet in G17, FLB next Monday as I said in class. It's a red brick building, which is next to Davenport Hall. Don't be confused! I'm going to wait for you guys in G17, not in 336 Davenport Hall on Monday.

For homework, please refer to the announcement for the homework menu on the right.
I've been checking every single homework and attendance since the semester began, so please be sure to visit the website as often as possible to check out assignments.

Have a nice weekend!

Week1, Day3

Hello, class!
Take a look at the man in the picture! He seems to be amazingly happy, doesn't he? Yes, tomorrow is Friday! Hope you're going to enjoy the first Friday since a new semester began.
(I know everyone is saying "TGIF!")

On Friday, we're going to talk about cultural differences that you guys face in the U.S. In fact, the same thing happens when you write an academic essay in American schools, and that's why you're taking this course. However, I don't want to go further for now because we're going to talk about more in class. Please watch two Youtube videos, and think about your own experience in the U.S. Enjoy~

Week1, Day2

Hi everyone,
It's sunny!! Enjoy the weather as much as you can. :D You can take a short nap on the Quad, ride a bike, or have a cup of coffee with your friends chatting about new classes.

We'll be doing something very important tomorrow as my email says, so do NOT be late. Please be on time or earlier if you can.

Also, we're going to have some new students tomorrow. Just in case that some of you might not know where Davenport Hall is, it's the building next to Foreign Language Building (red brick building). Davenport Hall is located between the Union and the Foellinger Auditorium. Please see this map for more information or see the photo above.

Hope to see all you guys at 3:00 tomorrow!

Textbook

We don't have any official textbook for this course, but there is one recommended book as I said in class. If you want to buy the book, please do so. If you don't, that's OK. For further information about the book, please refer to the handout I passed out today.
